Throwback Thursday: Autumnal bows and Classy Capes

I've decided to dedicate some of my thursday posts to old images that I have of outfits I like that were taken before I started this blog.  This second throwback post is from a couple years back, when I lived

Throwback Thursday: Suspenders and Plaid

I've decided to dedicate some of my thursday posts to old images that I have of outfits I like that were taken before I started this blog.  I am fond of the pairings in them, and I'd be willing to wear them again, but I'd rather put effort into photographing new content than spend time rephotographing outfits that I already have some images of.  So here goes.

October Review

Since nostalgia has always been a key theme in a lot of the work I've done, I wanted to try out a post that pulls together some of what I considered key styling moments of the past month.  Whether it was a significant addition to my wardrobe, or a sentimental marker, I think its always good to look back and reflect, so here we go:

Elbow patches and skirts

October rolled around and it suddenly became time for tights to be worn.  I picked up this pleated skirt

Halloweenie Details

Happy Halloween!

While I didn't make a costume this year, I still chose to be festive!  What a drizzly yet warm Halloween we're having in my area!  I'm all excited looking forward to an evening of treats, apple cider drinking,

Moments on Film

I realized recently that I never shared these images with anybody via the interwebs, due to all the craziness that was the end of college.  So this post is dedicated to sharing with you some of my favorite

Black and White and Patterned All Over

I know I probably went a little (lot) overboard with the amount of pictures in this post, as I tend to get a little carried away shooting sometimes, what with cropping the frame in different ways and getting different aspects of an outfit.  Sometimes I'll spend 20 minutes just staring at two photos, trying to figure

Antique Taco: a Discovery in Deliciousness

So, as I've posted a few things about this week, my business partner Crissy and I (yay Fox & Hound Photo!) visited the Renegade Craft Fair in Wicker Park on Saturday.  The day got off

Well Poke a Dot and Call me Plaid

I have a definite love affair with ties.  All types and shapes, I love 'em.  I especially love this tie paired with this crazy plaid shirt because I think the two patterns actually complement each other well with

Gwen Bennett Feather Art: an Artist Profile

Last weekend I went to the Deerpath Art League Art Show in the Lake Forest Square, and amongst the exquisite paintings, illustrations and vibrant medias, I found Gwen Bennett.  She creates beautiful masks with vibrant, natural color feathers that she washes and steams  before using.  She told me a bit

I was Once Lost, but now I'm found: An Artist Profile

This past labor day weekend I headed out and perused the works of the many artisans participating in the Deerpath Art League's 59th Annual Juried Fine Art Show.  It was intense.  There were easily

Stitches and Bows

Lately I've found that I'm really into different types of collars with bows and ties.  I have a few different  shirts that have interesting ones, and I've found

Savory Shiitake Mushroom, Bacon and Mascarpone Crepes

Last week I took charge of the kitchen and cooked dinner for my family for five days in a row — I was on a cooking spree.  One of the nights I decided to wing it a little bit, and set out to make some mushroom and cream cheese crepes.  The inspiration came from

Custom Doctor Who Bow Tie

This past weekend a friend of mine was in a wedding party, and tasked with finding a bow tie that both contained the color grey/silver, and seemed "Doctor Who-ish".  He was kind enough to

Anthropologie August 2013 Highlights

I got the August 2013 Anthropologie catalogue in the mail yesterday, and instantly fell in love.  Here's to sharing some of my favorite morsels with all y'all:

Let's just start with the way they print their covers.   If I've taken anything away from art school,

Estate Sale Finds

At the beginning of the summer I went to an estate sale with my grandma in a neighboring town.   I just wanted to share some of the gems I scored at said sale!

The major find that I scooped up was this awesome blue trunk.  It makes an awesome side table for a low chair, or in my case, a small coffee table for my room!

Grad Parties and Mini Subs

A weekend ago I went to my cousin's graduation party/ College going away celebration (Congrats Elyse!), and as with all celebrations, a wonderful way to really get the happy goin' is to devour some delicious food.  So my mom made these awesome miniature sub sandwiches

Strawberry Crepes in the Morning :)

This morning I decided to try this recipe off of Pinterest for strawberry and chocolate crepes.  They are chocolate crepes with cream cheese filling and fresh sliced strawberries.

On Entering Society as a Real Human... More or Less

I wrote this yesterday, more for myself than anything, and it really does kind of sum up everything I've been feeling since I graduated.  I feel like I'm in this place where some pressure that hasn't revealed itself to me is somehow guiding me to feel like I need to know what's going to happen with my life RIGHT NOW.  Like I need to

Turning Twenty-Three

So turning 23 really doesn't feel any different than turning 22, except I have now gotten to the age where I kind of dread birthdays.  I think I was kind of excited about getting older up until a certain point, and now I'm just feel like I'm losing time or something.  Which is ridiculous.  Because in most people's eyes I'm probably still a child.  I digress.  It was a good birthday, regardless of age, and it was a great opportunity to make some delicious food and have some family over to eat it.  My mother has always been a pro at creating beautiful dinners, so I think I get my interest in creating ridiculous food from her.  When I told her I wanted to make a cake, she was like, "Don't you just want to relax and let somebody else take care of it?  I mean, it's your birthday...", and my response was something like this: "Heck no, I'm making a cheesecake!".   Relaxing on my b-day just ain't my style, I guess.

Having never made a cheesecake before, I started making this cheesecake and finally had it in the oven by midnight the night before.  Unbeknownst to me (probably because I don't actually read recipes before I start them, and prefer to plunge in blindly head-first) there was a 3 hour cooking and cooling process ahead of me.  I really should learn from these kind of incidents, but alas I must find some sort of weird thrill out of doing this stuff.  And anyways, it was kind of worth it to make a cheesecake!  Here's some pics of the finished product:

It was a White Chocolate Cheesecake from the Williams-Sonoma Essentials of Baking Cookbook, which I love.  I have about four cookbooks from that series and they are all full of mouth-watering recipes.

My mom also made a really good appetizer to dip crackers in:

It was so delicious! Just goat cheese and thyme and olive oil, heated up in the oven so its all warm and delicious!

So that's about all I have on my birthday and delicious food for today, au revoir!
