October Forever

I'm pretty enamoured with this week's outfit post because I feel like it incorporates some of my very favorite things — plaid, tie front blouse/dresses, and textured neutrals— and so much of this fab look was sourced secondhand.  I've had a conflicted relationship with fast fashion for a long time, because I do

Audrey Hepburn Style

Everybody loves the iconic Audrey Hepburn style.  The classic black gloves, sleeveless black dress with pearls, the hat.  So do I.

But I decided I'd love to do a little bit of a new spin on the classic look by restyling the Breakfast At Tiffany's inspiration from different scenes in the movie.

You Need to Calm Down... and Just be Marvelous

I have seriously been so excited for this and a few upcoming posts for so long now.  Get ready for some Halloween costume inspo from yours truly hitting the blog today and in the next couple weeks!

My first installment in this series is inspired by The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel that I have been loving. so. much.

Varsity Vibes

I'm sure anyone who knows me in real life following this is thinking, "Why is Lindsay anywhere near a football field?".  I'll be the first to admit that sports aren't really my thing, and that can be case-in-point summed up by the fact that in trying to figure out where I should shoot this outfit, I asked Andrew where the nearest "Football Fork" would be.

I've been informed they're called goal posts, and not 'football forks', 'pitches' or any other variation of those that I would have come up with.

Reworking and Redesigning My Closet

When we first moved into our apartment — and honestly every apartment we've moved into or lived in since moving out of my parents house — I never gave much thought to changing around my closet.  I think often when we rent, we're thinking about things in the temporary.  We're thinking, 'well eventually one day I'll have a good couch, or organize my clothes, or try to hang up pictures.'

And while I've always been the one to push the envelope and hammer nails into the wall and put up pictures on a whim, I've always taken that closet part at face value: this is the closet I have here, and I'll just throw my stuff in it.

It wasn't until maybe 8 months ago that I started thinking to myself, "why haven't I used any of the tricks that I've learned as a clothing merchandiser to better interact with my own closet?".

Lovely Bakes: Lemon Blackberry Fig Cake

Fun Fact:  I had never actually eaten figs until this summer.

Basically, I guess I've always kind of been aware that figs were 'a thing', but up until about 4 months ago, if you mentioned figs to me, I would immediately think of fig newton cookies, and the thought would stop there.

Pumpkin and Spice is Nice

Well, hello October!

As is customary here in the midwest, this week as we plunge into fall we've gone from 85 degrees and thunderstorming and nose-dived 20+ degrees overnight to 57 degrees and damp!   Still, I'm getting excited seeing the tips of leaves starting to turn color and bright yellow hues popping up and dotting the trees here and there along the highways.  I'm thinking it will only be a week or so till we get full blown colorama around here :).

Our Wedding Day

© Kristen Marie Parker | 2019

It's been over a month, and I still barely even know how to begin writing about this day.  SO much work went into this day.  So many hours of planning and driving and thinking and meeting people and combing the internet to make decisions that felt just SO BIG.

When we got engaged I really didn't have a whole lot of a picture or idea as to what planning a wedding takes.   I had only really attended a handful of weddings, and I had no idea what it would be like, or what it would feel like planning a wedding other than what you see in TV and movies.  The only thing I really knew going in was that no wedding is the same, and whatever we ended up doing would naturally be very 'us' because we would naturally choose things that are things we like, right?

One Windy Morning

I'm not totally sure what it is about the water that makes it have such a calming effect on me.  Sometimes I feel the best way to clear my mind is just to make my way down to the lake and sit on the rocks for a few minutes, watching the waves come crashing in.

Billows and Breeze

It's funny, this shoot was definitely one that would fall under my personal category of 'Not so Great'.  But, I've been trying hard to not be so hard on myself creatively, so I wanted to work through my struggles and still get this one up for all that it's worth.

Afternoon in the Orchard

Ah, September.

I think September might be my favorite month out of the whole year.   I think its generally a little under-appreciated, because all month people are racing to get to October, mentally.  A lot of people have the stress of the 'back to school' season, either prepping their kids for the return to school, or readjusting to campus life... and then the next thing on a lot of people's minds is crisp autumn air, PSL's and Halloween.

But September is in my opinion, the best weather month of the year to get out and enjoy.

Travel Planning

I'm big on planning. I love planning out my week, setting goals, planning meals out, planning how to tackle projects, you name it.  I love taking a big problem and breaking it down and ironing out every little detail.  So when it comes to planning trips, I am 100% in my element.  I love researching our

Fresh from the Fields

I've been wondering a lot lately why we are so prone to procrastination.  It often seems like there's this little voice going, "we could do that, OR... we could just do something else instead", even when it's things that we really will be happy we did.  Like sweeping the kitchen or studying for a big test, or sometimes for me, going out and shooting these outfit photos.  I'm always excited once I get home to get the images on my desktop and start sifting through and editing, choosing the best shots and painting in light here and there.   I love styling the outfits, and even writing my little blurb of thoughts

Endless Summer

Often times I feel like I catch myself in taking for granted the truly beautiful surroundings that we have here in Chicago.  We live very near to the city and I often find myself yearning for the wide open spaces more than the bustling city life — but we do have little pockets of wonder at our disposal like the beaches that line our Great Lake.  And I do love the giant rocks that hug Lake Michigan all along its coast. We definitely don't take enough advantage of the

On Being an Artist

"A true artist's work reflects his or her life + thoughts.  When a true artist is creating a
piece of art, there is nothing else on his or her mind; it is an escape from the real world."

— Kokil Sharma, Elite Daily

In college I majored in Fine Art.

I have two bachelor's degrees in Fine Art.

But for some reason I never thought of myself as "an artist".

Summatime Chi

Hi there!

I'm just over here enjoying these sun-filled days and cherishing the few great beach days there are left!

September has felt like summer more than anything the last few years, and though retailers are plunging into the depths of fall already, and pumpkin spice lattes abound, I am just feeling thankful for the warmth of the sun on my skin and the flowers happily soaking it up around me!

Lovely Little Refresh

You may have noticed a few changes happening around these pages!

Coming back from the PNW last month after Andrew and I joined in marriage, I wanted to take some time to reflect.  To reassess, and to really listen to my heart and the artist inside of me to tell me what

PNWonderland May 2019: Portland, OR

Our pnw adventure was finished off with a three day stay in Portland, OR exploring the city and the Columbia River Gorge.

PNWonderland May 2019: Cannon Beach, OR

I chose to blog this one separately because it was kind of a mini-trip itself within our pnw adventure as a whole.  This day at Cannon Beach was so perfect and peaceful.

For your info, Cannon Beach is a 1.5 hour drive from the City of Portland, so it is the perfect day trip if you're visiting Portland for a bit.   The drive out was hilly and wind-y, but it was also incredibly beautiful.

Building a Spring Capsule Wardrobe

Welcome to The Lovely Red Fox's edition of 'How to build a capsule wardrobe'.

I've been so interested in this concept for a while; I'm always intrigued by those able to boil their wardrobe down to only a select number of clothing items.

My Weight Loss Journey

Among the list of a number of things I've changed in my life in the past year is getting out and doing something active on more days.  I hesitate to say every day, but I think I can confidently say that being active has become a more central part of my life.

Gardens In Winter

We recently took a winter trip out to see the Chicago Botanic Gardens in the winter.  While it was busier than I thought it would be, it did seem like most people were flocking to the indoor orchid show.  While we didn't stick around to experience that, we did visit some of the outdoor gardens and get a good little walk in.

Confession Time: My Acne Struggle

Hi there lovelies!

Today I want to talk about something that's a little difficult for me to talk about.  While I may seem pretty confident (or at least fairly confident) on the outside, the truth is I am just like every other person with their share of insecurities.

Slow Living: What it Means to me and Why I Decided Burnout and Stress Weren't Cool Anymore

A little while ago I stopped and asked myself, "when did I become this person?"

This stressed out, burnt out, irritable person.

I wondered to myself how I got to the point where I was so "busy", that it didn't seem I was prioritizing anything that was actually important to me.  I was pushing myself through my everyday, hoping that if I

Olive You

The downside of this winter in Chicago is the freezing temperatures and the constant precipitation.  It seems that every other day is a massive snowfall and many trips outdoors are treacherous for driving.  But the upside is that almost every other day is an opportunity to get some great outfit photos in some freshly

Wardrobe Woes

My favorite fringy jacket that I love so much, and my favorite victorian style blouse.

For today's post I wanted to address something I've been feeling for a while now.  It's centered around how I feel about my own wardrobe and the items in my closet, and possibly others out there may feel this as well.  There is some differing and conflicting opinions out there as to how we go about building a wardrobe.  If you buy "too much" you could be seen as frivolous, even if you buy all of it at a bargain, or conversely if you

Bathroom Reveal

Hey there lovelies!!!

Boy has this one been a long time coming.  Not only do I feel like it's really been far too long of a timeline on sharing our house updates with you guys, but this one feels like it has been years in the making.  Back in 2016 I posted a before post that featured a before picture of the bathroom at our old apartment, and a mood board for what I planned to do with it design wise...

Freezing in the Midwest

It's a cold Midwest out there as of late.  It's such a strange experience visiting the beach during this time of year.  Most people don't think of taking a trip to the beach during the colder months, but I love it because it completely transforms into a very different place.  The crunch of frozen sand mixed with ice is a odd

Wandering in Winter

I wanted to take today's space on the blog to give a bit of quiet — on the mornings we walk a lot of the time I'm in awe of the simple beauty of nature and the seasons shifting.  I wanted to share with you today some of the natural beauty I've been enjoying while we've been wandering in winter.
