2019 Year in Review

This year has been A YEAR.

It has been a mixture of some of the best moments of my life as well as some of the hardest days I've experienced.

So much has happened this year.

Lights Above

One of my very favorite things about this time of the year is the magical quality of all the twinkling lights that adorn our streets and homes.

All over there are little pockets of beautiful lights up, making their own little magical scenes when the sun goes down.

DIY Christmas Banner

Every year I try to add something new to our holiday decor.  Often times, a bunch of new things!  But each year I want to create a new handmade craft that can be used for years to come, so that one day I will just have an endless assortment of holiday crafted items that I made decking all of our halls!

The Christmas Fairy

The year's end holidays are upon us, and as such I thought I'd share a little Christmas - inspired outfit post on the blog!

As I was shooting this one I encountered many more people than I thought I would on a cold winter's day out for a morning jog!  I got a couple "You look like a Christmas Fairy!" comments as people ran by, so I thought that might be a fitting title for today's post.

A Light In the Woods...

Nature really is a wonder.

We watch as it transitions through the year from sunny beaches and flowering branches to colorful leaves and finally to disparate trees and winter wonderlands blanketed with snow.

Our Home For the Holidays

It is that time of the year again when I share with you guys how we've decorated the house for the holiday season!  Transitioning seasons in the house is so much fun for me, and I enjoy bringing out some of our decor from over the years and mixing in new things to keep it ever-evolving!

DIY Tree Skirt

This year as I was gearing up for decorating our house for the holidays, we realized that this was the year we were going to take the plunge and get a legitimate sized Christmas Tree.   This was a big day!  What kind of tree should we pick out?  Pre-lit? Unlit? With or without snow?!

Well you can probably surmise from the first photo of this post that we went with a snow flocked tree, so no secrets there!  We ended up getting our tree online and lighting it ourselves incase the lights ever burned out.  Yay, we had bought our first 'real' tree (in the sense of size, not live!)!

A Holly Jolly Christmas

As the days grow shorter and the temperatures grow colder, I'm finding more and more reasons to wrap up in a blanket and stay indoors on my free days with a warm cup of tea or hot cocoa.  So I found it only fitting to make my first outfit post of the Christmas season one that emulated that cozy indoor mood — and I was pretty much all sold when I saw these adorable holiday pj's at Target during their first week of putting out Holiday merch!

Foyer Redesign

A photo story of our newly redesigned Foyer!

If you saw my closet post about a month back, you'll know we've been redoing different areas of our little 'partment bit by bit.

Amber Waves; Resplendent Fields

I've been pretty excited to shoot this vintage dress I acquired somewhat recently for a little bit now, and I'm so excited with how the photos ended up turning out.  Especially because it was SO COLD when we went out to shoot this.  But sometimes you have to sacrifice comfort for the sake of art!  I was just really feeling this golden toned dream in the fields, complete with touches of gold in the accessories!

If you're looking for me, I'll just be off frolicking in the golden fields!

A Woodland Love Story

We went to the woods to be animals for a bit for this one... bless my husband for putting up with me and being a woodland creature with me!  It was below freezing and we were both shaking in our boots, but the five minutes we spent out in the cold for this miraculously turned out pretty great!

An unlikely love story between a fox and a raccoon...

Vintage and Velvet

I just love this time of year — the few weeks where you are surrounded by the beauty of the turning leaves, before they all fall and are bare for the winter.

A Harvest Bread Board

Welcome to another installment of Lindsay bakes things!

This time, I decided a Harvest bread board was in order, as I was looking for something comforting with the cold weather rolling on in.  So I turned to my cookbooks and the internet to find some fun breads to make from scratch to create a well rounded bread and spread board!

Destination Wedding Planning: Catering

Oh my gosh, food.

Do we love food, or what.

Food for us is life-source.  My mother has always been so passionate about food for as long as I can remember, and Andrew has dove so deep into cooking over the years that I feel like I'm living with a chef.  I am surrounded by good food, and as a result I feel that the whole family is a bunch of foodies!

So planning food for our wedding was paramount.  Photography, Styling, and Food were the highest items of importance on our list.

A Romantic Rabbit

If you've been following my blog for a bit, you might have caught on to my love of woodland creatures ;) !  Well, I've been so in love with the animal masks we got from Spirit Parade on Etsy for our wedding, that I thought I would incorporate them into some outfit shoots this fall!   They are just so well made and fun, that I thought it would add a fun element of whimsy.

A Fall Table Scape

Hello All, and Happy Fall!

I'm here on the blog today with one of my favorite things ever to style — a holiday tablescape!  This fall setting would be perfect for a Thanksgiving table or a FriendsGiving table — whichever you like!

Read on for tips on setting a holiday table!

Handmade Harvest Crown & My Favorite Fox Dress

Lately I've been pretty inspired by floral crowns.  Partially from aclotheshorse's seasonal crowns , and my own floral crown Vanessa made for my wedding, I've been inspired to attempt to make one of my own for a little bit now.   Looking back on my last attempt at floral styling, I knew I needed to finesse my skills to make a crown that would dry out nicely.

Hollerin' at Apples

Not too long ago, Andrew and I took a trip up to a local apple orchard, called Apple Holler.  We used to take field trips to this orchard when we were in elementary school, but we hadn't been there since we'd been adults!  So I thought it would be a treat to take a little day trip and go gather some delicious

With Wild Abandon

A fun little desert glam look... I couldn't resist styling something to be shot amongst the cacti!  :)

A good number of items in my closet came from Forever 21 due to my having worked for the company for a number of years, and always having access to the newest pieces as soon as they were available.  I've always had an affinity for that piece that has an extra touch to it — whether that be some rhinestone

In the Cactus Forest

During our long weekend in Arizona, we wanted to be sure to get some hiking in, as we knew we would be near a National Park.  Saguaro National Park flanks Tucson on both the east and west sides of the city, and offers many hiking trails that weave through the Sonoran Desert. We greatly enjoyed

A Tucson State of Mind

A couple weeks back Andrew and I took a long weekend trip to Tucson, Arizona to attend his best friend Steve + Melanie's wedding.  The wedding was so beautiful, and we happily welcomed the sunny vibes and desert mood, especially as temperatures were starting to plunge here back at home.  For our stay, we found a great little Airbnb that was right in the middle of everything.  It seemed whenever we needed to get anywhere it was only 10-15 minutes away!  A welcome change from Chicago where we're always driving or on the train for what seems like forever and always drowning in traffic.  On top of the ease of transportation in Tucson, we enjoyed some desert hikes, and I just adored our relaxing and breezy accommodations!

All Hallow's Eve

This Halloween I wanted to do something extra fun for the blog to celebrate the season.  It all started in the Halloween aisle of my local Goodwill, and unfurled from there!  A lot of planning went into this one, as well as trying out some fun new things I had not attempted before!  So last week my friend Mandy and I took a trip to the woods to shoot something spooky!

Something wicked this way comes, and we hope you enjoy! :)

Sabrina Inspired Stylings

Hey guys!

For my last costume inspiration post, I wanted to do an outfit that had a spooky tie in it.  I've been obsessed with Netflix's Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, a new tv show with a dark spin on the classic Sabrina the Teenage Witch.   While the show is much creepier than I usually am into, I am loving every bit of it and anxiously awaiting the release date for the third season!

Hello, Pumpkin!

As we near All Hallow's Eve, I thought I would style a fun festive Halloween inspired outfit that is fun and comfortable for everyday living!  It's mostly brought together with this wood candy corn necklace that I've had for as long as I can remember back, but made extra spooky with a fun black pinafore dress, striped knit top, cat socks, and witchy shoes!  :)

Stationery Design From Our Wedding

Reception Photo by Eva Galka

Gosh, there is just so much to share with all of these planning posts.  It feels so strange sharing this stuff now after all this time for so many reasons.  The wedding was over 2 months ago now, and not only that, but we planned it for three years prior to that.  I really didn't want to spoil any surprise for people who came, so I didn't share a whole lot with people before the day.  I think it really worked out for the best doing it that way, because people didn't know what to expect leading up to it, and that was kinda fun.  But it makes for a strange sharing experience now, as it all feels so big now to share what Andrew and I were essentially working on in secret for three years!

October Forever

I'm pretty enamoured with this week's outfit post because I feel like it incorporates some of my very favorite things — plaid, tie front blouse/dresses, and textured neutrals— and so much of this fab look was sourced secondhand.  I've had a conflicted relationship with fast fashion for a long time, because I do

Audrey Hepburn Style

Everybody loves the iconic Audrey Hepburn style.  The classic black gloves, sleeveless black dress with pearls, the hat.  So do I.

But I decided I'd love to do a little bit of a new spin on the classic look by restyling the Breakfast At Tiffany's inspiration from different scenes in the movie.

You Need to Calm Down... and Just be Marvelous

I have seriously been so excited for this and a few upcoming posts for so long now.  Get ready for some Halloween costume inspo from yours truly hitting the blog today and in the next couple weeks!

My first installment in this series is inspired by The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel that I have been loving. so. much.

Varsity Vibes

I'm sure anyone who knows me in real life following this is thinking, "Why is Lindsay anywhere near a football field?".  I'll be the first to admit that sports aren't really my thing, and that can be case-in-point summed up by the fact that in trying to figure out where I should shoot this outfit, I asked Andrew where the nearest "Football Fork" would be.

I've been informed they're called goal posts, and not 'football forks', 'pitches' or any other variation of those that I would have come up with.

Reworking and Redesigning My Closet

When we first moved into our apartment — and honestly every apartment we've moved into or lived in since moving out of my parents house — I never gave much thought to changing around my closet.  I think often when we rent, we're thinking about things in the temporary.  We're thinking, 'well eventually one day I'll have a good couch, or organize my clothes, or try to hang up pictures.'

And while I've always been the one to push the envelope and hammer nails into the wall and put up pictures on a whim, I've always taken that closet part at face value: this is the closet I have here, and I'll just throw my stuff in it.

It wasn't until maybe 8 months ago that I started thinking to myself, "why haven't I used any of the tricks that I've learned as a clothing merchandiser to better interact with my own closet?".

Lovely Bakes: Lemon Blackberry Fig Cake

Fun Fact:  I had never actually eaten figs until this summer.

Basically, I guess I've always kind of been aware that figs were 'a thing', but up until about 4 months ago, if you mentioned figs to me, I would immediately think of fig newton cookies, and the thought would stop there.

Pumpkin and Spice is Nice

Well, hello October!

As is customary here in the midwest, this week as we plunge into fall we've gone from 85 degrees and thunderstorming and nose-dived 20+ degrees overnight to 57 degrees and damp!   Still, I'm getting excited seeing the tips of leaves starting to turn color and bright yellow hues popping up and dotting the trees here and there along the highways.  I'm thinking it will only be a week or so till we get full blown colorama around here :).

Our Wedding Day

© Kristen Marie Parker | 2019

It's been over a month, and I still barely even know how to begin writing about this day.  SO much work went into this day.  So many hours of planning and driving and thinking and meeting people and combing the internet to make decisions that felt just SO BIG.

When we got engaged I really didn't have a whole lot of a picture or idea as to what planning a wedding takes.   I had only really attended a handful of weddings, and I had no idea what it would be like, or what it would feel like planning a wedding other than what you see in TV and movies.  The only thing I really knew going in was that no wedding is the same, and whatever we ended up doing would naturally be very 'us' because we would naturally choose things that are things we like, right?
