Mad About Plaid

I'm not sure if I've mentioned this explicitly on this blog, but you should know I'm madly in love with a good print.  Plaid is one of those great classic prints that is my Achilles heel — it looks like such a
great choice in the store, but then it sits in my closet because I don't balance it out with the necessary choices (like a good solid to pair it with!!!).  So we'll be getting on to some great ways to style plaid later in this post.

Plaid abounds in stores right now with the fall season quickly approaching, and who doesn't love it???  I found this great plaid poncho today, and as always, Fox and Hammer has some great animal badges made with vintage plaids!  My point is, you can get plaid on pretty much any piece of clothing if you look hard enough, and all options are great!  Whether it be Buffalo, Tartan or Madras (as I'm now realizing, every plaid I own is tartan...) there are tons of great ways to style your plaid into your fall wardrobe, no matter the silhouette.

For this exercise I challenged myself to come up with pairings I haven't yet tried IRL, and I'm pretty excited to wear some of these now!  First up is a way to style a fun plaid accessory, plaid shoes.  Mind you once I start putting on this outfit, I might find I'd add some more accessories,  like maybe a watch or a great matching sock, but generally I've pulled the colors from the plaid on the shoe into the other pieces in the outfit, adding interest with the details on these monochrome pieces. I'm avoiding print mixing here, but still allowing interest in places other than the print on the shoes.

Here we have another plaid accessory styled in keeping with a transitional season.   Even though denim is a neutral, it plays off of the blues in the scarf to become a pop color, and the shorts are brought into fall by adding a pair of tights underneath!  Top it off with a cropped trench and call it a blustery day!

Finally (and my favorite of the three!) we have the classic plaid collared shirt with collar clips for emphasis paired with highwaisted black shorts, and pulled together with gold and brown accessories. This combo screams autumn to me, in a glittery, warm-from-apple-cider way.  Bring on the pumpkin patches and apples!
