Travel Destination: Washington

The view from our breakfast at Red Lion Olympia
Recently Drew and I set out on another whirlwind Pacific Northwest adventure for lots of fun wedding planning appointments and some good ‘ol general adventure. I think I will write a post in the near future about more
of the destination planning experiences that we’ve had, but for now I’ll just share some of the other fun we had in Washington.

Flying into seattle it was pretty cloudy so while we got an awesome view of Mount Rainier while we were above the clouds, once we landed the mountain views were somewhat limited.

Most of our business in the Seattle area was wedding catering related, but we did get the chance to stop into the Pike Place Public Market and poke about a bit. I got a “bretzel” at Beecher’s cheese which was delicious. Beecher’s cheese has a very distinct sharp taste to it and is local to the area so be sure to have a taste if you get the chance! The market had other fun things as well including lots of fresh produce, beautiful flowers, and giant fish. We also got some great coffee at Storyville Coffee which is nestled into the marketplace, and took in the harbor views, the giant Ferris wheel, and the Olympic mountains from across the Puget Sound.

The moody Lake Cushman

The next day of our widespread excursion we trekked out to the Hood Canal area. I love this calm area and all of its natural beauty. From the mountains to the serene quality of the canal, it is a very beautiful area to visit.

While staying in this area, we were sure to have an evening bite and breakfast at the beautiful restaurant at Alderbrook Resort. The first night we had a glass of wine and got the cheese board which was incredible. It had many cheeses and bread as well as honeycomb, fig spread, and other accoutrements. Honestly, no meals at Alderbrook disappoint, they are all superb. We followed the cheese board with a round of dessert: a creme brûlée and a molten lava chocolate cake.

The next morning we headed back to the restaurant for a delectable Eggs Benedict breakfast and a sweeping view of the water.

Then we were off on our way to Portland!

To be continued...
