Happy Fourth of July!

This post started out as an attempt to do some interesting lighting with the use of sparklers, but it was doomed from the get go.  After going to numerous stores and finding that none of them had any sort of sparkler in sight, we discovered that our town and surrounding towns have banned the sale/purchase/possession of fireworks (including sparklers!).   I hadn't even considered that this would be a factor.  I grew up running around with sparklers on the fourth of July!  So we opted for the alternative of using some small battery powered string lights.  We traveled to the beach/ rock area near the lake and we got all these great pics of my patriotic #ootd and had fun running around on the rocks and enjoying this great weather we're having.

We got everything we needed, and decided to relax for a while, waiting for the sun to set some more before starting to test out the lights; I had some neat ideas for using them, and the weather was beautiful, the lake calm.  As it was getting a little darker, probably five minutes before we were about to get up and start testing out lighting, I was looking through some of the earlier shots, and suddenly Drew told me to get up.  I looked up and there was a raccoon climbing out of the rocks!  He looked like he wasn't really enjoying the fact that we were there, so we decided to abandon ship on the string light effects.  But he was so adorable!  Hopefully we'll get to try it out another time, perhaps without the uninvited Robert Raccoon!

The Outfit and About it:

Forever 21 Dress.  Sometimes you just need a bright red skater skirt.  I bought this dress over a year ago and I think it has since gone on sale.  It's a really great staple piece that you can transition through lots of seasons with layering.

Forever 21 Crop Top.  Boy oh boy are crop tops all the rage right now.  I've been accumulating them like they're going out of style (though they definitely aren't any time soon), but I was initially somewhat hesitant because like a lot of people I'm sure, I'm not really too jazzed about how short they are with mid/low rise bottoms.  Instead, I like to layer them with dresses like this outfit, or jump on the high-waisted shorts/ pants trend (which I'm loving).

Forever 21 boater shoes.   I'm gong on a trip to Maine this week and I think its certainly influencing my recent purchases, though I'm pretty sure these would have ended  up in my life regardless of the wanderlust.

Forever 21 Owl Wristlet.  Put owls on a bag and I'm happy.  Need I say more?

Forever 21 Necklace and Hair Bow.

Francesca's Watch.

Forever 21 Chambray Shirt.  I've been loving this shirt/ light layering piece this season.  I suppose I've not had a lot of transition season jackets and this year I've made an effort to stock my wardrobe with a few cute, neutral pieces that go well with everything.

  1. Beautiful! I can't wait to see your Maine pictures/outfits, etc! Too bad Robbie spoiled your light effects, but he was indeed cute :)
