Pining for Winter

It's this time of year that evergreens and pines get to shine their brightest, both literally with the addition of holiday lights, and figuratively as they are the one type of tree that doesn't feel barren in the winter time.   There is something very mysterious and alluring about walking through pines in the winter.

It seems we are walking that fine line between freezing and very nearly freezing here in Chicago, and while we've seen snow a handful of times, it doesn't seem to be staying on the ground just yet.  So here we have a winter wonderland of trees, sans snow!

I've been thinking a lot about my style of photography and the mood that I wish to portray/ represent here in this space.  Even though I am mostly surrounded by an urban setting, I want my images to allude to a more remote world.  I want them to feel almost fantastical, and I feel like this post in particular is achieving that and I am so glad.  Often, as with this set, I am only a finding a pocket of nature here and there in the city.  This little tree grove was a gem of quiet in a hectic city.   Not a hundred yards away lies a very busy road and intersection, and a pizza place with a loudspeaker calling out order names.  But this little grove took me out of the city for a nice half hour shooting, and another few hours editing, so I am grateful for that.  I long to escape to the quiet of the wilderness more often.

  1. I love your dress, where's it from? Actually I love the whole outfit and the mood of the shoot. You look like a more grown-up version of Little Red Riding Hood!

    1. Hi Ruby!
Thanks for your kind words! The dress was from Francesca's, though I don't see it on their website anymore. :/ They have a lot of fun unique dresses there though.

      :)
