Our East Coast Adventure part 4

During our time in Bar Harbor we stayed at the Harbour Cottage Inn.  It's a quaint little coastal inn that has a number of small rooms and suites that are uniquely decorated in keeping with the coastal theme.  There is a lovely little porch/ deck area where they serve breakfast each morning (usually a small bowl of fruit paired with whatever scrumptious breakfast they have prepared for the day).  The innkeeper was very nice and greeted us each morning, asking about our stay and what fun we were up to on the island.  The lobby was filled with books about Maine, hiking, and Acadia, serving as an excellent resource during our stay.

As final days of vacation usually are, our last day in Maine was filled with a little bit of sadness, a little bit of awe, and a whole lot of loving every second of everything.  We drove to the southern tip of the island and made a pitstop at a rock beach at the seawall, watching the waves as the fog rolled through.   While playing on the rocks it started to rain so we had to run back to the car, but you almost just wanted to stay out in the rain and enjoy it.

The rain died down and we decided to go on another hike, taking all the little side overlooks and appreciating every second of it.  While sitting on a rock watching the ocean waves, I looked down and saw that the whole side of the rock next to me was covered in snails!  Then I looked to the other side, and realized that there were jellyfish in the water!

Everything from the woods to the water to the sea creatures were all so incredibly awe inspiring.  Even just looking down on the rocks as the waves washed over them.  So many different obstacles have come across these rocks.  So many deep scratches, different types of rocks embedded within them, so many beautiful colors and shapes, jagged and smooth edges, so many stories.

Our trip ended with a sunset whale watch, and I couldn't have imagined a better last night.  The boat tour people said that it was the best whale watch of the season thus far.  There were so many whales we lost count.  We would see one puff of air over here, and then another one dive over there, and it just kept going.  These creatures are so huge and some of them came up right by the boat!  The feeling of watching a whale dive in the ocean is indescribable.  All I can say is if you ever get the opportunity to take a vacation like this, take it.  Every moment was incredible.  I was completely in awe of every aspect of nature, and it was a breath of fresh air from the crazy hectic city life.
