Spring Hair, Don't Care + My Haircare Story

Hey there, friends!

Just wanted to post a quick fun little update on my hair refresh for spring, and how I've updated my haircare routine in the first few months of 2020 ♥

I recently went to the salon and got some fun rose gold balayage highlights to ring in spring! 😊

Just wanted to share a little bit of the imagery that is influencing my creative mind as I move into the spring season.  It's still all snow and dreariness outside, but I'm dreaming of those beautiful blooms and lively greens that will hopefully soon be filling the view from my window.  I'm also chasing a little bit of magic this spring, and hoping to incorporate and share with you some new finds from some brands that are new to me, but that I feel fit so rightly with my soul. ♥

For now I'll be off trying to find that beautiful fairytale castle out there in the world...

Mad As A March Hare

It's just starting to feel a little bit like spring around here finally, and I'm taking the time to appreciate the little green shoots popping up in people's gardens.  There's something so magical about spring; after so many months of desperately trying to love nature in the winter, just as it starts to feel hopeless, the green comes back in a comforting and beautiful wave, blossoming from branches and covering the ground.  I can't wait — I can feel it in the air.   It's almost enough to make me mad as a March Hare, excited to get outside and take it all in ♥

Pausing for a Personal Update During a Time of Crisis

Two weeks ago, if you told me that my state would be under a shelter in place order right now, I wouldn't have even known what that meant.

Two weeks ago, I was getting a hair cut, putting pink in my hair, and going about life as per the usual, dreaming up creative ideas of shoots out in the woods, and what travel plans we had upcoming this year.

Strawberry Peach Gallette

Guys, I think I have found my new normal in the way of breakfast tarts.  I could seriously eat this for breakfast every morning.  This beautiful little gem was tweaked from a recipe I found in my Huckleberry cookbook, and oh my gosh is it delicious!!  Her original recipe was for a goat cheese and quince tart, and I basically just switched out my fruit choice for strawberries and peaches, because I just love them so!

Waves of Winter

I've definitely been channelling some Outlander and Little Women vibes in my fashion purchases lately.  This dress jumped out at me as a must have when I saw it on Shein recently.  I thought it required a little trip to the shores in the snow with some little buds and trying out a new hairstyle to boot!

For the Elves

When I was growing up, we used to spend some of our summer days at my grandparents' cabin up in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan.   And while we were there one summer, another girl from the neighborhood who was about my age shared with me a magical place out in the woods, where the elves lived.  I don't know if it's still there, since it's been ages since I've been to the cabin, but I bet you I could retrace my steps through the forest, even these 15 years later.

That Rainbow Magic

In honor of St. Patrick's day and my blog's birthday happening in the same week, I wanted to make something extra special for the blog this week!  Happy Seventh Birthday, little blog of mine!

This photo series is one of my favorites to date, and involved a LOT more post processing than I do regularly.  I'm so happy with the outcome and I hope you love it as much as I do!

Feathers all a-flutter

I just love the little pockets in winter where we get a warm day and you can hear all the birds chirping in the trees.  It gives me a little pick me up from the longer drearier days that sometimes seem unending.   It can be so peaceful wandering inbetween the snow patches just listening to the birds and their songs.

Style Inspirations: Outlander / Potato Peel Pie Society / Little Women

Shopping for vintage more, and hoping to channel some vibes of decades past...

Lately (and if we're being honest, for always), I've been particularly inspired by period costuming in films.  I just adore the amount of detail that went into clothing going back in history.  Obviously in the 20th century things got quite a lot more comfortable concerning fashion, but gosh almighty, were the styles of old gorgeous works of art!

There have been a few films and tv shows in the last few years that have spoken to me in their costuming, and might just be influencing my wardrobe choices in the future!

Waiting on the Train

Recently I walked down a different street on my way home from work and discovered so many new things in my town that I didn't know existed!  It's so crazy how we can spend so much time in one area consistently, and not even know what there is a couple blocks over!  I am such a creature of habit.  I love to take the same route places, and to know the exact routine that I will have daily.  So here's my little reminder to you and myself to take time to purposely explore new things.  You'll never know what you might find!  If I hadn't taken a new path, I wouldn't have found this cute little train station that was perfect for this week's vintage inspired look!

Ethical vs. Affordable

Earrings from an artist on Etsy, Steady Decor

The topic of ethical fashion is paramount these days, as more and more people become aware of the state of the clothing industry and it's effects on our planet and labor force.  The business model of fast fashion has been pretty heartless in its exploitation of garment workers and the effects that cheap, rapid production and dumping of clothing has on our planet.
